先日のトリノオリンピックでは、結果を知らせる番組
を見ていると、「メダル獲得ならず」といういかにも残念
だというコメントをよく耳にしました。でも、少し前の
オリンピックに比べ、日本人選手のレベルがあがって
いる競技が多く、見応えがあって、がんばってるなぁ
という感想を持ちました。どうして、マスコミはあんなに
メダルに執着しているのか、理解できないです。
話はまたWBCになるのですが（笑）昨日テレビを見て
いたら、キューバでモニターで観戦していた地元の普通
のおじさん（に見えた）がインタビューに答えていて、
「キューバはベストを尽くしたが、日本に叶わなかった。
まだまだ練習しなくては・・」と言っているのを聞きました。
何気ないコメントですが、自国のチームを負かした相手
を罵倒することもなく、自国のチームをねぎらいつつ、
検挙であるこの応答に私はミニ感動しました。
そして、今日のニュースでは、カストロ議長が選手の
健闘を称え、労をねぎらってバットをプレゼントしたという
のを聞きました。そこには、なんだ銀だったじゃん、という
雰囲気は微塵も感じられませんでした。
そして、間接的に聞いたのですが、韓国の監督は、
日本には今の日本チームがも１チーム作れるほど選手
層が厚い。韓国もがんばられくては・・・。というコメント
をしていたとか・・。
韓国国民の盛り上がりを見ると、熱しやすい国民性
なのだと思っていたので、この冷静なコメントに少し驚き
ました。そして、このような監督の下に作られた韓国
チームだから、あれだけまとまった素晴らしいチームに
なったのだと納得しました。
少し古い話ですが、かつて伊藤みどり選手がアルベー
ルビルオリンピックで銀メダルを獲った時、「金じゃなく
てすみません」と謝ったことがありました。
素晴らしい成績を残すことはどうしても期待してしまう
し、メダルも獲れれば嬉しいですが、スポーツを観る側
として、勝手な期待に応えられなかった選手が謝らなく
てはいけないような雰囲気を作ってはいけいと思って
います。
観ている側にもスポーツマンシップが必要なんだと
キューバのおじさんと、韓国の監督さんの言葉を聞いて
思いました。

そうですか。オリンピックって世界中が注目しているかと思えば、そうでもないんですね。冬のスポーツは全世界でできるわけじゃないですしね。
